Meet Taylor Blaise (sounds like: B L A Z E)
Don't you love it? Blaise is such a cool middle name to have. Taylor's middle name suits her personality to a "T" This girl is on fire! Just graduated from California State Baptist University, with a degree in Journalism.
(yay T!)

Until her dream job in the world of Social Media comes to fruition, Taylor is working for Creme de la Gems.
And believe me... that dream job, is coming! This girl has already been working as an intern in two highly sought after Social Media companies.
But for now, Taylor is all mine. Well, part-time anyway. Oh, and she is my step daughter, so I have full bragging rights.

You may have noticed a sparse website.

That's because a NEW website is in the works. After two years of searching for the perfect
web designer, I've cheerfully chosen Lisa Bacon of Moxie Pear.
Lisa and I both adore my branding by My Little Buffalo, who is also named Lisa ;)
So the new website will be an expansion on it. I love the talents both these gals have to offer, and know they will help the Creme de la Gems brand soar.

The new website will allow customers to enter custom options. YAY you! And YAY for my inbox, which often has duplicates of the same questions & concerns... "it won't let me enter my custom info?"

As for etsy.

I love etsy.
The fees? Not so much. I'd rather give that money to "TAYLOR BLAISE"
(using my powerful, deep, raspy "voice over" voice)

Our family has moved a lot over the past few years, all over the place. It feels like I'm a golf ball, on a golf course, putting around the green. Waiting to be hit into the final hole.

It gets tiring. And frustrating. I just want to settle somewhere for remainder of our lives.

The past few years has been the same routine. The first week in December, I get an email from my Dad. Endearingly, I call him Pa. (I was a Laura Ingalls wanna-be... weren't you?)

The email goes something like this:

Hello Ce Ce, (my nickname)

Dona and I have a package for you, and need your new address.

I hope you are doing well and you are happy.

Say Hi to Dirk, Justin, Taylor and Aidan for me.

Love, Dad

The ~~Priority Box Of Cookies~~ email from my Dad

is one of my FAVORITE things because

my Dad knows we move around a lot, and so the email is becoming a tradition.

A tradition of "where are you living... and are you happy?"

I am horrible at keeping in touch with family and have phobias of phoning people.

Yes. Even my own family.

(FYI-I didn't use to be so afraid of making phone calls until after my days of working for a popular weight loss center as a Center Director. Corporate made test calls to us on a daily basis, which while you are managing a busy weight loss center, can be unnecessary & stressful, in my opinion. Thanks a lot Jenny.)

Now you are thinking I'm this homeless phobia filled gypsy, creating within my troubled life. Enjoy that thought. I think I could play the part very well, if ever I have a chance.

Halloween memories

Some of my most favorite childhood memories were of Halloween, all because of my Mom.

My Mom WAS Martha Stewart.

My Mom could do everything... paint, sew, draw, cook, bake, mend a wound, cut hair...

the list could go on and on.

Halloween would typically start with us kids going to school in the finest handmade costumes. As soon as school got out, we would often make orange popcorn balls, and carve pumpkins.

Mom would make chili beans, corn bread and hot apple cider.

Those were such - sweet - memories :)

We lost my Mom on Halloween, seventeen years ago--

from brain cancer.

But the memories she planted will be cherished always :)

She set the bar high! I only wish I could spend my days creating a home & making The Holidays

as special as she did.

~~I wish~~ ... I will ;)

Aidan designed his own Halloween costume this year.

I forget what UAG stands for, but it is something VERY important ;) He was insistent on having a cape.

???

His entire costume...

black jacket, black pants, badge, sunglasses, cape, arm band...

cost us just under $20. Thank you Salvation Army & Thrift stores!

We all had a great time trick-or-treating.

Last week we went to the Pumpkin Patch.

Aidan told us he might be getting "too old" to go to the pumpkin patch.

So I started snapping as many pictures as I could.

And that he would allow.

Okay, I think I will go cry now...

Aidan (a.k.a Bubba, Bubba-Bean, Bubs) entered our lives 9 years ago.
And although his "attitude" shown in the photo looks rather horrid-
he is the most loving, charismatic & gifted boy. I write about Aidan the most
because unlike his brother & sister, he still lives at home.
He gets caught in mommy's camera crossfire.

I'm not a writer. So why do I blog?

Having a blog is a great way to connect with others, and meet others
who share similar interests. A blog also helps show the real me.
That I am a silly, messy, creative girl, stuck in a 40-something body.

What I want you to know is this...

I almost quit working with polymer clay the first week of giving it a try.

I hated it.... despised it! I thought it was boring.

But my sister, who had been crafting with polymer clay for several years begged me not to quit. I am so glad I stuck with it... because it wasn't shortly thereafter that "it" hit me. I could see in my mind, how to create shapes into beautiful things. Shortly, I started creating mermaids, ballerinas & princesses-

I was hooked! Thanks sis :)

One of my wishes is that this blog will be a place for you to stop in and say hi- we have "this" in common, or "that" in common... or that you might take away with you; a fun tutorial.

Like I mentioned earlier... I am not a writer. So forgive me if I misspell a word or if my posts are full of grammar errors. I just want this blog to be a positive place to share :)

Right now what I am most grateful for, is that I have been extremely blessed to turn my passion into a business. The past two years, I've taken on the responsibility of our family's sole provider. Not necessarily by choice, but out of necessity. The economy has not been kind to my hubby's line of work. Because of the financial burden, I've included hand stamped sterling silver jewelry designs into my little company.

I hate to admit it, but hand stamped jewelry is not my passion. But for this time in my life, it is a necessity~

I won't lie... being our family's sole provider has been a BIG struggle for me (did I mention BIG??). On bad days, I feel like giving up & getting a real job. Just the other day I wanted to crawl up into a little ball & wait for the waiting to be over...if that makes any sense to you? But most days, my job brings me joy & fulfillment. Seriously...?

I can't imagine a day without Creme de la Gems.

Year...

after year...

I've kept my faith and will keep my faith (at times by a thread). But I know the waiting will end.

HE never gives us more than we can handle, right?

One last thing......

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may remember this post.

It was about the passing of our Gecko (named Geeko).

That was a very sad day for all of us, but mostly for Aidan.

Today, our newer gecko

named Geck-ee-oh, died today. We don't really know what was wrong, but he

lost his appetite after our first move of the Summer, and just stopped eating.

so sad.

I am waiting until Friday after school to tell Aidan, so that he stays focused

in class tomorrow. Wish me luck :)

I'm sure we will hold a memorial for Geck-ee-oh... maybe Daddy can sing a nice song

;)

It's been a while since I wrote anything about me,

the artist behind the clay.

[artist- it seems SO serious, doesn't it]

Sharing my creations... plugging my designs...

that's the easy part!

But when it comes to talking about me, the REAL me...

I have a hard time with that.

But I figure since I have new friends who follow my blog,

I should post a little brush up on who I am.

I'm Tracy.

A work at home Mom & wife who twirls through life wearing a cheesy grin left over from my days as a professional dancer. I don't consider myself to be a "pro" when it comes to working with polymer clay, but we do seem to get along very well. Much better than grammar and I get along [wink-wink].

As long as I can remember, I've always had a passion to create & design beautiful things. There is nothing better than getting lost in a new creation! Anything from a choreography piece, to graphic design, to painting a set, to designing a new necklace... I am at peace within all that artistic goodness & get swallowed up in it.

I'm the luckiest girl to have such a supportive family behind me. My husband Dirk is a gifted singer with a "my-heart-skips-a-beat" lyric baritone voice, my two sons Justin & Aidan, and my step daughter Taylor.

Both Dirk & I came from marriages which did not work out, for different reasons.

It's a miracle I could ever love or trust again- but Dirk was persistent ;)

Bake Shop Clay by Sculpey; however, any

Sculpey brand Polymer Clay is safe for children.

Polymer clay can be found in your local craft store.

Remember to keep all sharp tools away from children. Read

and follow all package directions on the back of

your polymer clay packaging.

Condition (squish & soften) clay before using & wash hands

between using each color.

M O N D A Y.

This picture of Marbles (my kitty) says it all.

The funny thing is, is that she hates to get her picture taken. She's just like

a kid. But for some reason, this day... Marbles followed the camera around, like an over worked model.

I'm lucky I caught her "peeved" look... It's suitable for Monday, right?

It has been a busy couple of weeks... how about you?

Our family had yet another move.

Turned out, the house we were living in

was infested with termites & had mold issues.

We are glad we moved to the "big white house"

because we had to follow our dreams to see for ourselves, if this was where

How-To-Thursday {recipe by cinnamon sticks}

Hi friends!

I will be away from internet late Wednesday through Friday, so I am bringing you

"How-To-Thursday" early, and... I've brought a guest!

My very sweet friend Canela, is sharing her Baked Potato Soup recipe with us!!

It looks so delicious, I cannot wait to make this for my family in the coming chilly months.

Baked Potato soup

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

You will need...

6 large Russet Potatoes.

5 good size red potatoes

oz. bacon cut in small pieces

1 large or 2 small bunches of leeks cleaned dried and cut into small pieces

8 cups chicken stock

2 cups milk (I used 2%)

1 cup heavy cream

2 cups sharp cheddar cheese

Sour cream

pepper to taste.

Boil or bake your potatoes till fork tender. Cut them into uniform pieces and set aside.

(if you boil them be sure to drain them well)

In a large stock pot or dutch oven cook your bacon till crisp.

Remove your bacon and drain on paper towel.

Remove about half of your bacon fat.

Return your pot to med-high heat and add in your leeks to remaining bacon fat.

Saute till tender.

Add in all your chicken stock and 2% milk Bring to a gentle boil.

Add in your potato pieces.

Add in your heavy cream and return to a gentle boil.

(If you like a thicker soup you can mash your potatoes just a bit at this point but don't over mash)

add in 1 cup of the sharp cheddar cheese and continue to cook until cheese is melted and mixed in.

Add most of your bacon back into the pot and remove from heat.

Garnish with sour cream, remaining cheese and bacon pieces.

Enjoy!

I know, I know...

you must be wondering "WHY" is she already talking about

Christmas??!! It's still September!!

Let me rewind back to LAST Christmas.

It was my first Christmas where I offered Stamped Jewelry for Women.

And I was busy, to say the least.

I had no idea what was about to happen. None! No clue! Nadda!

I spent weeks working on very little to no sleep, just to keep up

with all the orders coming in.

I put my hubby to work & three wonderful friends from Church,

who without all of them helping me, I probably wouldn't have made it

and called it QUITS!

Believe me when I say I am grateful! Because I am :)

I just like to complain. You know that by now, right?

I learned a lot with last years experience.

Tutorial Thursday {Facebook Page Badge}

Hi there!
Today's How-To is more informational & helpful than it is a Tutorial.
For lack of time rather ;)

I have made you a TEMPLATE for your Facebook Page!
Also known as a badge, button or profile picture.

"What am I suppose to do with that?" you ask...

Here's what:

Facebook Fan Page Badge sizes are tricky.

If your badge is too wide, long, etc., it just will not upload.

This template is 180 wide x 447 high,

and will fit perfectly into your profile picture.

This is my Badge.

If you are familiar with photo editing programs (aka software) such as Photoshop,

then editing the Template will be easy for you.

You can simply change the background, drag pictures, incorporate

your own logo, etc.

If you are not familiar with photo editing programs, then have no fear...

soon, I will have a full "How-To" Tutorial on how to make your own facebook badge in Photoshop.

Polymer Clay Tutorial {silly candy corn place card setting}

And welcome if this is your first time on my blog :)

Today is "How-To-Thursday"

Most Thursdays (God willing) I will post a Tutorial of some sort,

or a recipe, special graphic or photoshop help.

I chose something very simple this week.

Something to get us in the mood for Halloween!

{allow enough time for all photos to load}

Here we go.....

As always, if children will be doing the creating, I recommend they use

Bake Shop Clay by Sculpey.

It can be found in your local craft store.

Remember also to keep all sharp tools away from children. Read

and follow all package directions on the back of your polymer clay brick.

You will need:

1. Polymer Clay

(white, orange, yellow & black)

I use Fimo Soft, but you may use what you like.

Condition clay before working with it.

To condition: squish, roll, push, squeeze, etc., until clay is pliable.

2. Clean flat work surface.

3. Clay cutting tool or long smooth craft knife.

4. Small Round Kemper Cutter or paperclip.

5. A large, dull needle, or similar object.

Angry Bird Tutorial {polymer clay}

I am EXCITED about today's "How-To" Tutorial!

(and feeling pretty good that I kept my word about "how-to-Thursday's")

Welcome to my Angry Bird Tutorial.

This design is made out of polymer clay, but you may also use

fondant, playdough or other clay medium.

To start, you will need:

1. Polymer Clay

(red, yellow, black, white & beige)

I use Fimo Soft, but you may use what you like.
Condition clay before working with it.
To condition: squish, roll, push, squeeze, etc., until clay is pliable.

2. Clean flat work surface.
3. Clay cutting tool or long smooth craft knife.
4. 3/4" circle Kemper Cutter or Cap from bottle.
5. A large, dull needle, or similar object.

Images should show up in the 700px wide, but for some reason, not all of them are.
Let me know if you have any questions, or if you need me to email you images.

P.S. Remember to wash your hands after using each color clay, as well as after entire project is done. If you are making this craft with a child, you will want to use Sculpey Bake Shop. a time of renewing...

This year

I have been placed in a time of renewing.

And quite possibly, a renewing in all areas of my life.

my attitude

my business

my dreams

my goals

my parenting

my faith

I sorta feel like a newly planted tree

ready for water, sunshine & growth.

Starting with my attitude.

I complain - like, a lot!

That pouty-lip-folded arms stance was becoming

an everyday thing for me.

I'm trying not to stress all the little things that put me in that

ugly, pouty, negative, nagging place.

(Tell me you've been there too.)

The past 5 years, life has been quite the challenge for my family.

My hubby was hit hard with the recession, like most.

So I've had to pick up the slack.

It's been stressful.

But it amazes me what trials can bring.

Trials bring grace.

Trials bring renewing.

Trials can turn dreams into things.

Tomorrow, I'm going to finally reveal my dreams & goals I have with

Creme de la Gems.

Thursdays "how do i..."

I'm going to start something fun & new here on the blog.

Thursdays... well, let me say "some" Thursdays (to start), I will

post a craft, recipe, photoshop tip, etc., a
"how do i..."

(a.k.a tutorial, how-to, diy)

And hopefully I will be able to do this ~~when i feel like it~~ on a regular basis ;)

So without further ado...

here is the first ever Creme de la Gems Tutorial!

Chalkboard paint is the rage!

I see necklace pendants as tiny little chalk boards, antique frames with an insert of chalkboard paint, magnetic boards painted with chalkboard paint, kids rooms, chore charts, etc.,

the stuff is everywhere.

So I thought, why not paint some rocks & get Aidan involved?

Before you start, you will need:

1. Chalkboard Paint (at any craft store; we used black)

2. Paint brushes & a cup with rinsing water

3. Paper towels or Newspapers

4. Rocks.

(finding our rocks was the the best part)

(P.S., Aidan's "Rock" & Roll T-Shirt was not in the plans... ;) If only I was clever enough to come up with that on my own...)

1. Wash rocks in water. No soap needed.

2. Lay rocks out into the sun, to dry.

3. Squirt some paint directly onto rock. You may use a small dish, or cup to pour the paint into, but for me... that is just extra clean-up. And who needs extra clean-up? Not me ;)

5. Paint top & sides of rock(s).

6. Allow rocks to dry in sun & wait at least one hour, & find something to pass the time...

7. Apply a 2nd coat of paint & repeat steps 3 through 6. But this time, allow your rocks to dry longer. The paint bottle instructs you wait at least 24 hours to cure, before writing with chalk. However,

we only waited another hour :).

Let your imagination run wild...

How about a photo prop?

or a special message...

hmmm... our anniversary is tomorrow. maybe i can use these for something special... :)

They would make cute magnets!

So what all has been happening?
It's been kinda busy around here with school starting around the corner, and trying to
list all my Queen Bee Market leftovers.

What did well?
Rings, Vintage Fairy Dust necklaces, Baked Pins, Hair Cookies...
just about everything.
But, i was really pleased how well the Fairy Dust Necklaces did
{i didn't take pictures of all of them, and most sold!!!}

I hope to post about the queen bee market soon!

I've made up my mind...

If you've been following me for the past 2-3 years,

you know that I've been insanely "wishy-washy" when it comes to

my branding & "who & what" Creme de la Gems "is".

I went from making only accessories for girls, and then

I swapped to women's stamped jewelry. And then both. And then just women's...
AND GIRLS...

and so on... and so on...

Along the way, my lack of commitment on choosing a color scheme
has been a problem too.

I 'believe' I've changed course so often, because of what currently inspires me, trends, or

because of my creative moods. OR can it be that I have some form

of ~~mental illness~~ commitment fears?

(alright, you must know that part of my inconsistencies stemmed from the new state laws re: tests for lead in children's products, & WHO could afford such expensive testing? Not me!!)

For the record: my products are safe & lead free. Always were, always will be :)

I want you to know that I have made up my mind & will be revealing soon!

To a brand that I LOVE.

To products that I'm passionate about.

To primary products that are unique & stand out from the rest.

And the best part:

Products that make people happy.

I've learned a lot about myself in the past few years.

All week (last week)

And this week, I haven't spent much time on ~~showering~~ lookin' purdy.

(i did sneak of with Aidan & Dirk to a Car Show...and I just had to get my picture

taken with "the Cruella De Vil car!! How cool is that?)

At least I have a rubber band & sunglasses to hide the non-purdy-ness!!!

I have really good reason not to spend time grooming myself, I do!

I'm prepping for:

I have been CREATING new Goods.

I'm making sure my DISPLAYS are ready.

NETWORKING on social media sites.

PRICING.

Making even more NEW goods.

These new sweeties will be at The Queen Bee Market!

I will be sure to stock them in my shop soon after.

I'm shootin' for August 10th, unless something comes up ;)

The census on Faceook for these babies has been great!

Everyone likes the pumpkin headband best.

They probably feel bad for the spider.

why I LOVE the queen bee market!

I love it, and I'm so blessed to be a part of it!

I get to see these two girls, who happen to know a thing or two about how to put on the very BEST handmade market anywhere!

"Bee"-ing a vendor for The Queen Bee Market has allowed me to work my craft deeper than ever before.
(get it? "bee-ing" as in "bee" ~giggle~ it must be getting late...)

It has pulled talents from me, I never knew I had, & makes me stretch my abilities.

It gives me the opportunity to create those designs I've had sketched out for

months & even years.

I'm fortunate I get to visit my talented online designer friends, and make new ones.

Although I'm kinda shy when I meet someone for the first couple times, unless the other person is the one doing all the talking, then I'm good ;)

Most of the time my brain almost always freezes...

"what should I say?" "uhh...um hi...again."

Seriously.

I think I just spend too much time isolated here in my studio.

Am I the only one? I gotta get out more ;)

Today, is girls day out.

My very good friend Canela is coming out to see me - YAY!

I don't get out to play with adults much, so today is special.

We will have coffee & something rich & chocolaty, because that's what girls do, right?

We will do lot's and lot's of window shopping & look for that one thing that we just can't live without.

We will talk about our dreams, children, businesses, goals, etc., and laugh (a lot).
